Methodology

The Methodology for this project is to utilize data regarding DeKalb County, Tennessee 1860 -1865 into a more "user-friendly" form for those individuals interested in the subject of the Civil War in a rural Middle Tennessee county that was deeply divided, unlike many of the counties that surrounded it.

This Omeka S project conceptulizes and uses geographic factors and political boundaries i.e. Civil Districts to create a social network project which will examine the divisiveness of DeKalb County, Tennessee through a spatial history data visualization of primary sources - Roster information and 1860 US Census information .

Post- Civil War, DeKalb County, Tennessee continued to be divided politically, with elections being used as another "skirmish" or even a full on "battle."

My appreciation to Dr. Andrew Maginn, MTSU Digital History Program for his encouragement and great assistance, and to Dr. Andrew Fialka, MTSU Civil War Specialist for his kind encouragement and suggestions regarding the GIS / ArcGIS Story Map component of the project.
